A bot-free AI meeting notepad for turning live conversations into editable notes and follow-up context
Who should use this?
Founders and consultants with frequent calls and Recruiting and customer-research interviews.
Who should avoid it?
Meetings where informed consent cannot be obtained, Teams requiring regional data residency outside the US
What problem does it solve?
Granola reduces split attention during meetings and the manual work of reconstructing decisions afterward.
Would I recommend it?
I would test Granola for frequent advisory or internal meetings, but never treat an unobtrusive recorder as permission to transcribe silently.

Premium review framework
Granola is worth shortlisting when note-taking divides your attention during frequent calls and you want an editable record without adding a visible bot to the meeting. It captures device audio, combines the transcript with notes you type, and produces enhanced notes that can be traced back to transcript context.
Granola documents live transcription on macOS, Windows, and iPhone, AI-enhanced notes, chat across meetings, templates, shared folders, and paid integrations. Notes are private unless a user shares them. The desktop app does not retain meeting audio; transcripts and notes remain subject to the selected retention and sharing controls.
The product fits founders, consultants, recruiters, and customer-facing teams who attend enough calls to benefit from a searchable meeting record. The ability to keep rough human notes in the loop is useful because the generated output begins with what the participant considered important instead of treating a transcript as the entire meaning of the meeting.
A bot-free interface does not remove consent obligations. Granola recommends informing participants, and its automatic consent message has platform limitations. Desktop transcription does not currently provide full speaker diarization, notes can still omit or misstate decisions, and data is stored in the United States. Review every commitment, owner, date, and sensitive statement before sharing.
The Basic plan is free and limits accessible history to 30 days. Business is $14 per user per month and adds unlimited history, advanced models, integrations, API and MCP access, and centralized billing. Enterprise starts at $35 per user per month. Verify the live plan matrix before buying.
Use Granola for ten representative meetings after obtaining consent. Compare action-item accuracy, names, numbers, decisions, correction time, sharing behavior, and follow-up time with your current process. Pay only if reviewed notes save durable time without weakening consent or data-handling standards.

Personal Recommendation
Shortlist Granola when bot-free capture and editable human notes matter; keep consent, factual review, and retention decisions outside the automation.

Yes. Granola's Basic plan is free and includes core meeting notes and chat, but access to meeting history is limited to the most recent 30 days.
No. Granola captures microphone and system audio on the user's device. Users should still tell participants and obtain consent where required.
Granola says desktop audio is sent for live transcription and not retained; iPhone audio may be temporarily cached and deleted after transcription. Notes and transcripts follow separate retention settings.
It still requires consent and human review, desktop speaker labeling is limited, and the free plan restricts accessible history.
