Short answer

Dessa AI is a candidate for browser-based voice practice and short narration, with an important model caveat. Evaluate the engine actually serving your account. A demonstration of another engine does not establish how the paid studio will sound or handle interruptions.

Evidence and scope

This review follows submission #576. We checked the product page, pricing and privacy policy on November 2, 2026. We did not start a call, generate audio, purchase credits or benchmark latency. Ratings are withheld, and no affiliate link is configured.

Demo recordings and production engines

The site identifies its showcase recordings as the Dessa voice model but says that model's public API is not yet available. Its FAQ names GPT-Live-1 for current Live Talk and HeyGen Voice for text-to-speech and cloning. These are vendor statements about its routing, not independently verified provider relationships.

The documented studio offers live conversation and downloadable WAV narration. Voice and language availability differ by mode, so verify the exact combination you need rather than assuming the headline total applies to each mode.

Read the billing selector first

The retrieved table displayed annual billing: Starter at a $13.90 monthly equivalent, with 660 monthly credits. This is not evidence of a cancel-any-month $13.90 offer. Verify the total charge, selected term and renewal date in checkout; we did not verify the monthly selector or pack checkout.

The FAQ lists no free plan, live speech at 10 credits per minute, web lookups at two credits each and narration at one credit per 160 characters. Subscription credits expire monthly; pack credits do not expire. Short calls have a minimum and rounding rules, so confirm the charged balance for a small test instead of inferring exact cost from wall-clock seconds.

Cloud processing and stored audio

The privacy policy says microphone audio and narration scripts go to a third-party voice provider. It says live conversation recordings are not stored, while session metadata is retained and generated WAV files remain until deletion. This is a cloud workflow even when captions disappear from the browser tab.

Use non-sensitive scripts for an initial pilot. Before a client project, establish which processor receives the selected mode and whether its terms suit the material. We did not verify deletion behavior or provider-side retention.

Proposed audition before a longer commitment

For conversation, prepare a fixed set of questions and a deliberate interruption. Note whether the response stops at a useful point and resumes with the right context. Repeat in the language and on the device you intend to use. Record defects as observations rather than guesses about which model caused them.

For narration, use a short script with names, numbers and a sentence that changes meaning if a word is missed. Listen to the downloaded file outside the studio. Compare the time spent correcting pronunciation and rerunning audio with your current method. Count accepted clips and credits used, not just generated seconds.

These are proposed checks, not measured results. Do not choose an annual term based only on a polished sample or a large voice count.

Verdict

Consider a small paid evaluation if browser voice practice or WAV delivery solves a defined task. Defer a longer commitment if your purchase depends on the unreleased showcase engine. Compare documented terms in the profile and record your own acceptance evidence in the buyer matrix.

  5. Verify what data enters the product, who can access it, how long it is retained, and whether it trains models.

Review starting point: Use approved low-risk data first. Check roles, consent, deletion, subprocessors, model-training settings, and the contract—not only the marketing page.

  6. Test the real handoffs, permissions, failure states, and export path your team depends on.
