The decision for a small team

Start with your existing helpdesk and the questions you can safely automate. Evaluate Lyro when Tidio fits your support operations; evaluate Fin when its available helpdesk setup and workflow fit your team. Avoid replacing a functioning helpdesk merely to obtain an AI feature before testing integration and migration costs.

Tidio's pricing separates support and AI capabilities. Intercom's pricing distinguishes helpdesk plans and Fin usage. Verify the exact deployment and billable outcome definitions in your quote. “Conversation” and “resolution” should never be treated as interchangeable units.

QuestionWhat a small team should require
Can it answer our common questions?Correct answers from approved current sources
Can it admit uncertainty?A handoff with context instead of an invented promise
Can we afford a busy month?A quote based on peak volume and clear caps
Can we recover?Pause control and a staffed fallback queue

Model the same support workload

Create an illustrative month with 1,000 incoming contacts: 400 order-status questions, 250 policy questions, 150 product questions and 200 exceptions. This is a planning example, not a claim about either product's resolution rate. Estimate which contacts are eligible, which require account lookup and which need a human decision.

Ask each vendor to price that same workload, including seats, AI usage, channels, integrations, onboarding and overages. Confirm what happens when a customer returns, asks another question, rejects an answer or never replies. Billing definitions can matter more than a headline unit rate.

Run a 50-ticket pilot

Select 30 ordinary questions, ten ambiguous cases and ten deliberate exceptions. Remove customer identifiers and define the approved answer or escalation for each. Include an outdated refund policy, a missing order, a conflicting article and a user requesting an unauthorized refund.

Review correctness, unsupported promises, handoff completeness, duplicate replies and reviewer minutes. An answer that closes the conversation but sends the customer back later should not count as a successful resolution in your internal score.

Use two reviewers for disputed outcomes. Keep the original question, policy version and answer together. Score product responses anonymously where possible. Do not infer a general automation rate from a small, hand-selected set.

Handoff is part of the product

Test whether a human receives the conversation, the reason for escalation and the relevant source. Verify behavior outside staffed hours. Send a deliberately hostile request to override policy and confirm that an agent cannot grant benefits beyond its allowed scope.

Start read-only. Add actions such as order changes only after identity, approval and audit requirements are explicit. A support assistant that can answer accurately is not automatically ready to alter an account.

Recommendation

Choose on accepted customer outcomes and total monthly operating cost. Run a shadow pilot before customer-facing deployment, then expand one low-risk intent at a time. Compare the Tidio profile and Intercom profile with the same scorecard rather than vendor-wide automation claims.
