**Mochi is worth trying if you prefer concise Markdown notes and flashcards with an offline study path.** It is a focused learning tool rather than a broad AI research workspace. This review analyzes official sources; we have not tested a paid deployment and numerical ratings remain withheld.
The [product site](https://www.mochi.cards/) presents notes and flashcards built around spaced repetition. The [AI guidance](https://www.mochi.cards/using_ai/) describes importing Markdown generated by an assistant and creating cards through an agent/API path. This is a useful distinction: Mochi can be the destination for AI-produced cards without being the place where every research question is answered.
Our editorial recommendation is to separate creation from acceptance. An imported question should retain a source reference, have one clear answer and be understandable outside the conversation that generated it. Markdown portability does not certify factual accuracy.
The [pricing page](https://www.mochi.cards/pricing/) lists Free with unlimited offline cards and decks plus import/export. Its table identifies Pro as $5 per month billed annually. Confirm the live month-to-month rate, tax and renewal commitment separately.
Pro adds sync, publishing, dynamic fields, API keys and service allowances. The page’s introductory wording associates AI services with Pro, while its comparison table also shows a small Free AI allowance. Confirm actual free-account access in the app before relying on it. Included service quotas reset monthly without rollover.
Start with an offline deck and upgrade for a specific requirement such as device sync. External assistant subscriptions and usage can add costs outside Mochi. Count editing time and useful study sessions as well as the subscription.
The [public privacy policy](https://www.mochi.cards/privacy) has a change history dating to December 2020. It states that account-free content stays on the computer, but warns account users against storing sensitive information and says database data is not encrypted. This is material procurement wording, not a current security audit. Ask the vendor for updated details before any confidential use.
An offline deck and an externally generated deck have different data paths. If you paste a source into a hosted assistant, it has already left the device before you import the resulting cards. Keep the evaluation public and non-sensitive, and inspect any integration’s permissions separately.
Potential strengths are focused study, readable Markdown and a free offline baseline. Limitations include uncertain free AI access, finite service quotas, source-checking work and the old privacy policy’s account-storage warning.
Compare [RemNote](/tools/remnote) when you want richer source-note and PDF workflows. Compare [NotebookLM](/tools/notebooklm) for source exploration before writing cards. A simpler system is useful only if it supports the routine you will maintain.
Create thirty cards from public material, including definitions, worked examples and exceptions. First write ten manually; then import a small AI-generated set. Measure unsupported statements, broken formatting, duplicate questions and the time needed to produce an accepted card.
Review on your normal device for a week. Try exporting and reimporting a copy, and inspect attachments, links and formatting rather than assuming everything transfers. If considering Pro, test sync on a disposable deck before migrating important work. These are proposed tests, not results we observed.
Evaluate Mochi for a deliberate, compact learning routine. Avoid sending sensitive material through account sync or AI services until current controls satisfy your requirements. Read our [checked flashcard workflow](/articles/create-ai-flashcards-you-can-trust) before introducing a large generated deck.

Run the same representative work you would use in production; do not score a polished demo.
Review starting point: Complete three to five representative tasks with known acceptable outcomes and compare them with your current process.
Calculate the effective cost per accepted result, including usage, review, corrections, and required add-ons.
Review starting point: Free offline use; Pro $5/month billed annually in the retrieved table. Confirm live monthly checkout and free AI access.
Define an acceptance threshold, test known answers and edge cases, and record every correction.
Review starting point: Editorial quality signals: features 0.0/5. Validate these signals in your own work.
Verify what data enters the product, who can access it, how long it is retained, and whether it trains models.
Review starting point: Use approved low-risk data first. Check roles, consent, deletion, subprocessors, model-training settings, and the contract—not only the marketing page.
Test the real handoffs, permissions, failure states, and export path your team depends on.
Review starting point: Mochi integration requirements are not fully structured in this review; list every required system and test each connection.
Record training, governance, reliability, accessibility, ownership, and change-management risks before rollout.
Review starting point: Generated answers need checking; AI usage has limits; Privacy and export require evaluation
